Performing a LinkTest (Linktest)
Use the Linktest function to test the link quality between the Aironet
Client Card and other nodes on the Radio Network.
When you run a Linktest, the Client Card sends a sequence of packets to
a target destination node—either an Aironet Client Card (if running in
Non-ARLAN mode) or to an Aironet Access Point (if running in
ARLAN mode). If the radio quality is good, the target destination will
receive the packet then send the same packet back.
Before you run the Linktest, make sure the target destination node is
powered up with the antenna attached, is within radio range, and is set to
the same SID, bit rate and frequency, or channel.
The Aironet PCMCIA unit displays the number of packets sent, number
received, and percentage lost, which is a reflection of the link quality.
Keep in mind that packets will be lost, however, the upper layer drivers
and software combined with radio retries ensure a constant connection.
When you select the Linktest parameter, the Linktest menu appears. To
pause the Linktest at anytime, press the P key.
